(Alliance News) – Alba Mineral Resources PLC on Tuesday said assay results from the Clogau-St David’s gold mine’s waste tip in Wales showed higher gold concentrate grades compared with the average.
The London-based mineral exploration company said gold concentrate grades of up to 1,000 grams per tonne of ore have been returned after independent assaying of a total of 81 kilograms of gold produced at the Clogau pilot. This is compared to the average grade of the final high-grade concentrates being 503 g/t, with average head grades for this material being 1.7g/t.
Executive Chair George Frangeskides said: “The phase 2 programme at the Clogau waste tip has achieved strong concentrate grades of up to 1,000 g/t, with an average across the five pits of 503 g/t. What is more, the independent assaying has confirmed that the overall head grade of the fine material taken from the Waste Tip averages 1.7 g/t, which is a significant upgrade on the average grade achieved from sampling the same material prior to the processing stage.”
The 2,833 square metres waste tip at Clogau comprises ore rock mined but discarded and not processed for its gold content during previous periods of mining.
Following a phase 1 sampling programme in 2021, which returned gold grades of up to 9.89 g/t with average grades of up to 4.37 g/t for the fine fractions and 3.80 g/t for the medium fractions, the company began phase 2 programme in January this year.
Alba shares were up 18% at 0.22 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.

The Morningstar Star Rating for Stocks is assigned based on an analyst’s estimate of a stocks fair value. It is projection/opinion and not a statement of fact. Morningstar assigns star ratings based on an analyst’s estimate of a stock’s fair value. Four components drive the Star Rating: (1) our assessment of the firm’s economic moat, (2) our estimate of the stock’s fair value, (3) our uncertainty around that fair value estimate and (4) the current market price. This process culminates in a single-point star rating that is updated daily. A 5-star represents a belief that the stock is a good value at its current price; a 1-star stock isn’t. If our base-case assumptions are true the market price will converge on our fair value estimate over time, generally within three years.
