Globeleq appointment new COO

Globeleq, the leading independent power producer in Africa, announced the appointment of Gionata Visconti as Chief Operating Officer (COO), who will commence the role in early January 2021.

Gionata will be responsible for all aspects of Globeleq’s operations and provide support for in-country governance work and asset management. As a member of the executive management team, he will also play an essential role in the development and execution of Globeleq’s operational and strategic initiatives.

With 20 years of experience in the power generation and energy sector, Gionata has held roles at ContourGlobal, where he managed a diversified asset fleet across various thermal and renewable technologies in Africa. He has also worked with Wartsila and Caterpillar.

Mike Scholey, Globeleq CEO said: “Gionata is a great addition to our executive management team. His industry knowledge and operational track record fully complements our focus on improving performance of our existing and future plants. We look forward to working closely with Gionata.”

Originally from Italy, he has spent most of his career abroad having been based in Senegal, Namibia, Cameroon and Germany, including many other short-term assignments across the world. The COO role will be based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Gionata commented: “I am excited to take on the COO role at Globeleq. I look forward to leveraging my operational management experience and work with the teams to achieve excellence in safety and operations, enabling growth and sustainability in an inclusive environment.”
